hello well today i decided to paint my clock surround out it came all painted this is where the problem started.

well before this all was good ran fine.

now i have no spark i have checked wiring too clocks and ignition switch i never touched just took it out.

weird thing is when i switch off bike i get 1 spark so it sparks but only when i have turned to ignition on then switch off theres no spark when kick it over in any position.

could the ignition switch be dodgy all wires look good though.

its driving me crazy now.

if anyone had this please help theres ten beers init for you lmao.

the coil is getting power
look at wires from points or cdi crank sensor
and is the handle bar kill button in the correct on position

Check all wires from ignition. I had a problem like this when i swapped the seat on my Etz125. I thought i'd put a Saxon 125 seat on to see if it was more comfy. Took it for a spin and after a few miles the bike just died on me. I got home, checked the fuses. one had blown. I changed the fuse and exactly the same thing happened again. I couldn't understand it. I thought it must be something to do with the seat change.
After a lot of searching and close inspection it turned out that a wire was rubbing on the top of the regulator, the rubbing was being caused by the Saxon saddle base, this bared the wire on one side, the side not visible from a glance, and was shorting out the whole ignition system. I insulated the wire and re-fitted the original saddle and it's not happened since.
Lesson learned, it has to be something and its not always staring you in the face, just give all the wiring a good check.

In all likelihood it is not something new it something that
a. Was dodgy in the first place and is now disturbed.
b. Has been made dodgy by being disturbed.

I would check all the earth wires and clean the connections. Are you getting lights on the clocks when you turn on?

If you are getting some spark then that suggests a loose wire to me...

Be methodical and keep your head, you'll find it.

As it's an ETZ am I right in assuming it will be running on points? Do you have access to a multimeter? If not, I'd be tempted to buy one. They can be had for around a fiver these days.

When the ignition switch is set to 'run' there should be 12V going to one of the terminals on the coil (the feed from the switch), and the other should run to earth via the points (i.e. the circuit should be complete when the points are closed, and broken when they open). At the moment the points open, the circuit is broken, the magnetic field in the coil collapses, and a spark is produced at the spark plug. Sorry, I once wrote an excellent tutorial on how to suck eggs as well!

The fact it sparks when you switch it off would suggest to me that the power is getting from the switch to the coil as it should, but that there is a problem with either the wire to the points, or the points themselves, and the second terminal of the coil is being connected to earth permanently. When you turn off the ignition switch, it's effectively doing what the points should do, and 'switching off' the coil, causing the field to collapse, and a spark to be produced.
