'73 ETS ignition timing

I am new to this forum. I have a late version of this bike - frame # 3516257 - and it doesn't have an auto advance mechanism on it. Should it have, or was it only the earlier ones that had this fitted? And if so, how does it advance and should it still be statically timed to 3.0mm BTDC?
