Plastic final drive case (TS250/1)

I've been chipping away at my barnfind TS250. Current job is to replace the chain and sprockets and clean up everything around the swingarm.

I have the rear sprocket/chain case off and the surface is scruffy - not dirty but it looks like it. The surface has degraded a bit and it looks like the snails have given it a once over and chewed up the shiny surface.

Has anyone dealt with this successfully? What's the best approach to improving the appearance this item?

You could try polishing it.
I personally haven't tried the complete procedure (sanding + polishing), but I gave mine a quick polish with a good result.

I'm not entirely sure the original casings were flat and shiney. The original ones I have had (long since replaced) do have a rough finish.. I suppose if you wanted you could just wet sand the whole thing flat and shiney :-)

Two of my bikes have aftermarket ones, which are a flat and shiney surface. They fit and work nicely actually- though you do need to clearance a few things to make them fit nicely.

I tried a clean up and a coat of satin lacquer but I'm not really that happy. It'll do for now.
Struggling to get those gummi hosen on just now.
