MZ/MuZ Riders

Hi Folks,
Daft question but maybe someone has done this before.
I am picking up a 79 TS250 and have to bundle it in the back on my old Honda CRV.
Expect I will have to strip the front end off to make it fit but what side should it lay on to prevent any gearbox oil etc to leak out?

I would favour draining the gearbox oil - if you do that it cant leak out so wont matter what side you lay it on.

I'm not sure the seller would be ok with that but it would be good.
Does anyone know where the gearbox breather and filler are located?

Filler / breather is the black plastic plug / bung to the rear of the cylinder and on the right hand side with you sat astride the bike.

The Drain plug is on the same side on the underside of the engine - don't undo the gearbox detent plug which it towards the left side of the engine.

Can see why the seller would be bothered once you have paid for the bike, but each to his own

I'd say left side too.

But 900cc (if it even has that much in it) should be nowhere near the height required to get to the breather on the RHS crankcase..

I'd imagine 900cc of oil would barely or maybe just about fill the clutch cover assembly?

If you were to plug up the fill hole, you could lay it on the right side. Thats the only spot it can leak from, since the filler cap has a hole in it.

If you lay it on the left, oil could come out of the clutch cable cover (just a boot) and/or tach drive cover.

Got the bike in the car, laid it on left side and the oil leaked out of the clutch cable entry point, it was always going to leak
A basin underneath caught all of it, a bit smelly on the way home though.

Ta Kruh, I missed that. Of course it can also leak from that gizmo that holds the clutch cable, and maybe a bit from the rev counter cable.
Anyway, it's sorted.

Ah.... yes the clutch cover entry.. Forgot about that too!

Anyway- you were pro-active and had a catch can... Good man!
