ETZ125 BVF Carburettor Float Setting

Postby HENRY » Sun Feb 23, 2014 6:31 am

FIRSTLY
On page 81 of the MZ Repair Manual A4 size, there are two checks to be made withe a vernier caliper:
32mm: needle valve open, stop tougue applied to carb casing (I assume carb held upright)
30mm: with the needle valve closed but the spring pin not pressed in (I assume that the check is made with the carburettor held upside down/inverted)
So does that mean 2mm difference between needle valve open and closed, or do I understand this incorrectly?

SECONDLY
Haynes Manual settings:
33+1mm with carb upright
27+1mm with carb inverted-a big difference to the above MZ manual reading

THIRDLY
34+1mm with carb upright
26+1mm with carb inverted-different to the above MZ and Haynes manual settings
These readings were obtained from a You Tube film. Below is a link to the film: MZ ETZ 150 250 251 BVF carburetor Repair manual service Regulacja gaźnika BVF.
It is in German but shows illustrations of the different settings float for both the 125 and 250. Also of interest is the MZ apparatus used to measure the fuel level.

I've set my bike up for these last readings and been around the block on it with no problems, but I will wait and see what happens when I use my bike for work on Monday.

I hope this information is useful; any comments are appreciated.
