TS 125 clutch assembly. Slowly going mad....

Postby ricklincs45 » Wed Dec 11, 2013 2:23 pm

Hello again Everyone,

sorry to put more questions to you, but this surely can't be right....

Got the drive side/clutch built up on the TS, all seemed well, so started on off-side. All seemed ok until something metallic fell out of engine and onto bench (engine was on its side at this point). I retrieve the part, to discover it's the clutch pressure plate. So, with the clutch assembled, the pressure plate and all the plates can come out of the basket...??!!

I've got no 'spare' bits left over, have checked the parts book (in front of me right now) and both manuals and can't for the life of me see how the pressure plate and plates are retained. Wouldn't want to think that if the bike goes round a left-hand corner all the clutch plates are going to fall out

Perhaps ought to mention: when I initially stripped the engine, all 6 clutch springs were broken and at least 3 of the pins which pass through the spring pillars were overlapping the pressure plate, rather than sitting within the supporting cups.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how the pressure plate is meant to stay in place?

Cheers,

Rick

hi , for a better understanding could you not post photos of what you have at the moment,,it sound like your basket is incomplete for something to fall out,

It is held in by the cups and springs with those nasty looking little pins. If it is back together properly I cannot see how it can fall out??
#15 goes through the plate from the outside from memory over the pins then the ring and then the little locking pin.
All the best

Thanks guys, have just had that 'lightbulb' moment.

I'd put the spring cups (#15) under the pressure plate

Haven't been back in t' garage as yet, but hopefully later this morning I'll get it sorted.

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated as always.

Rick.
