Some Questions about my Baghira, are they common MZ

I just bought a new 2001 baghira with 400-km on it and I was wondering if the following are common attributes of an MZ or if I need to try to fix it. My last bike was a DR 400.

Bike died 3 times driving:
1st. just shut off in second with the clutch in going about 35.
2nd. idling at a stop light
3rd. with the clutch in the fan turned on and then it died.

-turing right the fork touches the plastic and it feels weird and heavy in right turns.

-backfiring while the clutch is in or when I am not accelerating.

-lost power accelerating in second

- neutral light doesn't illuminate 60% of the time in neutral and it is harder to shift from first to second than any other bike i've ever ridden.

Thanks for any help. Besides for these issues I love the bike.

Wow, could that mileage (kilometerage?) be right? That seems like a lot of problems for a bike with that little road time.

I will say that during my break-in rides on my '05 Baggy (first 600km), I did occasionally experience some popping on decel, but only when the motor was under load, never in neutral. It eventually went away (or was addressed during the 1st service). No such issues since (~5,000 km).

I'm not near my bike, so I can't compare the other things, but mine has handled like a dream.

I'd get that thing back to the dealer pronto.

COMMENTS ON BIKE I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE SITTERS
2001 SET ON DEALERS FLOOR AND IN STOCK ROOM TO LONG NEEDS SOME TLC

1st. just shut off in second with the clutch in going about 35.
SOUNDS LIKE MY RT125 WHEN THERE'S DIRT IN THE FUEL OR WATER
OR I HAVE NOT TURNED THE CHOKE ALL THE WAY OFF

2nd. idling at a stop light
SAME AS ABOVE OR TO SLOW IDLE SETTING
BOTH MY RT125 AND SAXON TOUR DONT IDLE VERY WELL BELOW
1800 RPM
3rd. with the clutch in the fan turned on and then it died.
SOUNDS LIKE THE BATTERY NEEDS CHECKED OR CHARGED
IF IT'S BAD THIS
WILL EFFECT THE SPARK ON MOST BIKES

-turing right the fork touches the plastic and it feels weird and heavy in right turns.
CHECK AIR IN TIRE CHECK TO SEE THAT TIRE IS MOUNTED PROPERLY
MAY NOT BE ON THE RIM RIGHT THE BEAD MAY NOT BE SEATED PROPERLY WHEN RIDING IN A STRIGHT LINE DO THE HANDLE
BARS SEEM TO ALSO BE STRIGHT SOME ONE MAY HAVE COME DOWN HARD FROM A WHEELIE BEFOR YOU GOT IT (NOTHING BROKE JUST TWISTED IN THE CLAMPS
ALSO MAKE SURE THE REAR WHEEL IS IN LINE IT MAY NOT BE RIGHT
AFTER A CHAIN ADJUSTMENT
..... THE TAIL HAS BEEN KNOWN TO WAG THE DOG

-backfiring while the clutch is in or when I am not accelerating.
NC
-lost power accelerating in second
NC
- neutral light doesn't illuminate 60% of the time in neutral and it is harder to shift from first to second than any other bike i've ever ridden.

CHECK TO SEE IF THE LEVER IS GIVING THE CABLE A FULL PULL
HAD A YAMAHA ONCE THAT WAS A BEAR TO SHIFT IT WAS NOT
COMPLETLY RELEASING THE CLUTCH... CHECK CLUTCH ADJUSTMENTS

HOPE THIS HELPS :D

should not die at any time, unless you stall it or turn off the switch.

they can feel kinda heavy on turn in, it is 100lbs heavier than a dr400

have you changed the oil yet? they tend to fill up the gearbox with fuel if the float gets stuck.

replace the stock battery.

keep with it, they are great machines, with excellent build quality.

Thank you guys sooo much. I am going to change the oil and everything tomorrow. I have only had it for a couple of weeks, it's so much fun though

If it's been sitting then the carbs are probably in need of cleaning with an ultrasonic cleaner. This might explain the stalling and backfiring.

phlat65 is correct, if the floats get stuck, big problems can occur.

However, in regards to the weight difference, I haven't measured a DR 400, but the DRZ 400SM is 295 lbs. dry and the MZ is 403 lbs wet. Japanese dry weight is without an ounce of fluid anywhere, forks, brakes or oil. Oh yeah, no tires either. I think a wet DRZ is much closer to the Baggie than the specs say, but the Baggie is the heavier bike.

I agree with the above with the exception of the forks touching the plasitic. By street moto fork legs touch the right hand side tank cover on full right lock. This has chipped the paint and the only cure mey be to modify the lock stops.

My 98 Mastiff sometimes backfires when I pull the clutch in when coasting to a stop, and stalls itself.

Finally took it to the dealer and got it fixed. The problem was that the gas was left in the bike for 4 years without driving it. The carbs were so filthy and nasty. Now the bike runs great except for I can't get it in neutral very easily, which makes it impossible to start it with the kickstand down
