I commute 100mi. a day rd. trip. Being that this is the first single cylinder street bike I've owned I'm concerned about whether a single is made to drone along at say a sustained 80mph?

drone along

my RT125 runs 9700 rpm at 65 mph and i run it like that 5 and 6 hours
at a time on week end trips
it still runs ok with 9500 miles on it

see what your bike will do flat out in top gear on a flat road
and note the rpm .......
then when running on the daily ride run 85 % percent of that

at 65mph i am running the RT125 at 92 percent
so if you hear a loud noise some day you will know what blew up :-D

The 660 engine should be fine at an indicated 80mph, mind you an indicated 80 is about 70 on my street moto.
A realistic top speed for teh street moto is just over 90 and yes they will do more on along straight or with the rider flat on the tank, but realiscly 90-95 is about it.
With this in mind 80 could be a little on the high side, but should still be OK

I have put 12,000 miles on mine, it is 60 miles round trip to work, and I rarely go under a true 70 mph. I put on the trailtech speedo, and it is within 1mph at 70.

I would not worry too much. if you are concerned, just up the gearing a little!

I used to cruise about 80ish,, flat out sometimes,, it would hit the rev limiter in top with standard gearing, BUT it didn't last so long, about 15000 miles then started using a lot of oil..

Rings where knackered along with a fair amount of wear on the small end
