grrr grr...

as you prob have been reading my attempts, at doing a few jobs to my beloved baghira.. i decided to check the front sprocket tonite as i did briefly have a look last nite at it and it seemed a very tight fit as though there would be no room to get a 16 tooth on there...

anyway off with the sprocket cover... give it a bit of a clean and degrease... first thing find my 30mm socket and torque wrench thinking this is going to be a dickfart to get off...after three years................ said 30mm socket and torque wrench found... goes to bend down the tab washer... BLOODY HELL.... the sprocket nut is well loose...bear in mind this has been on there for about 3 years now... the only thing stopping the nut coming loose was the tab washer.... PHEW !!!!!

best remove the nut anyway and give it all a good clean.... put it all back on and tightened back up... will need next to get a new tab washer.. the old one will do for now.. but i will replace it when i can get one....

now for the next bit... lets count the number of teeth on the sprocket... as its bound to be a 15 tooth....

YEAH..... you guessed it................. it is a 16 tooth... well bugger me... i must have put a 16 tooth on there when i changed it a few years ago... i will lhave alook at my old post but sure it was a 15 tooth... anyway seems i have 16 front and 45 rear i think... not much room in my shed to check the rear but pretty sure it is a 45 tooth...

I can't beleive it Dave... i honestly thought i had a 15 tooth fitted...i was all ready yesterday to order a 16 tooth... good job i didnt.. anyway i think i will change the rear now though for a couple of teeth smaller... probably 43 ot 42 tooth... with the money i save as it definitely needs more top end... i cant keep up with my two mates... they have f650 gs bmw, and a 660 tenere... it ought to keep up well with them same size engines...

i found years ago ..that to keep up with other riders you had to be crazier than them....

15/43 seems to be the ratio that most of the more knowledgeable people on this site recommend. I've settled on that as well. As a 300 lb rider, I can comfortably say that you are doing something wrong if this ratio isn't cutting it for you. I can keep up with, and sometimes pull away from, guys riding KTM690's and XR650 conversions. We aren't trying to kill ourselves but ride at a pretty aggressive pace through the hill country here in central Texas. The KTM's pull me on the straights pretty good but they are putting down about 50% more hp from the factory and don't weigh as much. I can hang with them in the twisties. Do yourself a favor and find a dyno, preferably one that does exhaust gas analysis, and plop down a hundred bucks to find out if your ride is anywhere near a healthy tune. The peace of mind is worth it alone and I bet it will save you money in the long run.

nice though maybe i will....theres a dyno pretty local to me... once i get it sorted... i may pop over and see what they say. think its about £30 a pop on the dyno... carb has been recently been stripped and cleaned so pretty sure that is on trend.... i could do with a new tyre ideally before it goes on the dyno,,, but in saying that when i put my trx on a dyno a few years ago it seemed for fek up the tyre... dunno whether that is normal...

Bicycle `Turbo trainers`certainly give tyres a hard time,in fact you can buy`hard`compound bicycle tyre specifically for use with trainers.

Do you regularly hit the red in top gear,and not be able to match the other two for speed,or are they accelerating away from you on the way?

no its just they seem to maintain a higher speed than me... my engine feels as though its strained when keeping up with them... i think a higher top speed would reduce he engine revs, and be able to more comfortably keep up with them...acceleration is fine....in fact they have both commented how well my bike accelerates, which leads me to believe that a faster top end would be better

It could have been worse--you could have done what I usually do, which is order the part, wait for it to come in, THEN realize it was the wrong part (or I already had one...).. LOL!
