Any advise/feed back would be greatfully received
Skorpion 660 sport - using Castrol GPS 10w40 semisynthetic (this oil was confirmed OK to use by yamaha dealer double checked with Honda dealer)
Done about 1100 miles since last sevice May 09 and have used approx 250ml of oil. is this acceptable the engine has only done 1900 miles total.
No oil leaks, plug burns nicely and no smoke from exhaust

That's actually quite low consumption. My Skorpion has done about 30,000 miles and uses about twice that amount. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just keep an eye on the level and top up as necessary.

Hi iktank.
I think engine oil use is dependent on how you ride, on my bike speeds of over 70mph increase consumption considerably,
I don't think the engine uses oil through wear and tear, but is pumped as a mist through the crankcase breather into the airbox due to high pressure in a single cylinders crankcase,
Most single cylinder engines (and some 360deg twins which have the same high pressure crankcases)
have this condition.
Some people say that using a thicker oil 20w-50 or 20w-60 helps if you do alot of motorway running, I just check after every long run.

Get a few more miles on that engine before worrying about oil consumption. My Tour didn't settle down until
it had at least 10,000ks up and then it used about 250mls between 6,000k service intervals.
After 110,000 ks it was using around 1 liter, I rebuilt the top end, 1st O/S piston, new valves and stem seals, timing chain, etc. Have put on a further 12,000ks since and it has settled back to the 250-300 between services.
The second hand Sport(only 18,000Ks on it) which I purchased recently uses a little more, but the previous owner neglected it badly and thrashed it around but since giving it some care and riding with less gusto the oil consumption has dropped back to an acceptable amount, now has 23,000 ks on it.
