Almost completed my shorty chainguard. Can you fellas give me some opinions on whether you like it or not ?

Only bit i have to add is a plastic rear stay which will come off the single hole on the chain slider under the swingarm to the back end of the shorty. It will be hidden under the shorty chainguard so will be difficult to see but will support the shorty better...

Comments please negative and positive...

it looks much nicer than the stock one, but if i was going to go to the trouble of thaking it off, i would just leave it off.
im all for fabing up dodad's and personalization(just look at my jeep) but what purpose is the chainguard beyound keeping excesse chain lube of your pant leg?

thanks for the comment. I hate the black plastic on my bike and I am slowly getting around to ditching it. The only reason i did not leave it off completely was that there is the bracket left on the swing arm serving no purpose , and as you say i suppose it does stop some of the oil / lub coming of on the wheel / trouser leg........ Any ideas what I can put in The redundant hole ?

Jack, I like what you have done to your Baggy, I have the same bike with a Vampire and as I always do I'm in the process of modding it. As immitation is the gretest form of flatery a couple of questions about your mods if I may.

When you customised the fornt end I noticed you ditched all the black tubing framework, did you leave the bits that the fairing is attatched to and if so you presumably had to cut it at some point?

On the rear where did you get the rear/brake light from and reg plate holder and how did you mount them?

When i did the front end, i removed all of the tubework including the bits that hold the fairing on. What i did then was get two L brackets, and used them two attach the fairing onto the top radiator bracket.(I think !!!) If you take the side fairnings off you will notice that there is a small piece of plastic sticking out at right angles to the rest of the fairing. use that to attach your L bracket to the radiator top mounting screw i can get some pics for you. Only reason I used brackets on there, was When travelling one day a gust of wind bent my right hand side fairing back, and I lost the small plastic radiator cover thingy i now have an unpainted black one in its place. I had to make up a bracket for the speedo then which was a u shape piece of aluminium. You could remove the speedo and try something else. I will be doing this shortly going for a trail Tech Vapor. It all fits but is quie a tight squeeze......

The Rear light is a motrax Item cost about £25. T.B.H. i will probably be changing this for something else as i am on my second light and I have to repair this now as it is gone faulty...check out heine gericke they hav some great custom headlights can't find any links on their site but get a catalogue lights are under chopper lights section


paaschburg have some good items also.

The number plate is bolted directly to the back plastic mudguard above the airbox. there is a lip that you can use to attach the number plate. only thing is you will have to remove the toolkit brackets as they obstruct the number plate...I use a motrax l.e.d. number plate light and a refelctor below the plate just to keep things legal. The plate can easily be seen from behind. Keep it legal size !!!
