MZ/MuZ Riders

So I noticed today that 2 of the heads on my rear wheel spokes are broken, they are on opposite sides of the wheel too. I have no clue what happened, bus have been from PO, but I've been riding it like that...how bad is that?

Anyways I looked on line for replacements, no luck, so I called a few businesses that specialize in after market wheels. they both said I would need to send in the spoke and they would have to make new ones????? make? these are wheels that people buy right? does anyone have any other knoledge on this or have extra spokes or something that I could buy? seems like a big hastle to send my spokes in to have them made...

ooh and am I ok to ride still if I have 2 broken, i know its not ideal, but how bad is that?

There in the MZ spares you should find a pdf for spares, see page H7 for 18 wheel (items 5 to 8 )or page K7 for 17 inch wheel (items 4-7)

Maybe they are able to source these for you.

I run with stainless spokes now after breaking two rear in Oz.

I bought a few from Buchanan's spoke and rim.. 626.969.4655.

I measured them and gave them measurements,, my receipt says:

8ga SS SPK-- 5 5/8 - 3/16 -20
8ga .281 x.900 SS nipple

total for 2 ea was $10.66 incl shipping.

Do you know by chance if the spokes you ordered were the 18 that are all the same? The ones whose heads connect on the bikes left side? I'm assuming so since the chance of breaking 2 of the same of the other 2 groups of 9 would be a lot less.

It was back in 2002, had the back wheel rebuilt for £80 (GBP), took them about six weeks|||||||
had the front rebuilt by a local guy for £70 (GBP) took him three days |
Have travelled 40,000 miles since, including fully loaded through Central and South America.with no problems.

just as a follow up;
I ordered some spokes and nipples from Buchanan Spoke and Rim, Inc.
I spoke to them 3 times on the phone, the woman I spoke to twice was more or less no help and had trouble accepting me NOT sending in the spokes and just giving her measurements, even though I stated to her that people had done that for this specific bike and everything, but I finally got an order through and I'm about 99% sure it's not going to work, I couldnt get the angle bend that I needed to her to my liking and I'm sure they will be bent wrong. Although I did speak to a man on a saturday who was very helpful and I wish I could have spoke with him again, end of story it's costing me $24 for 4 probably incorrect spokes and 2 nipples.
But I got a responce from Grahams in the UK, they can send them to me, since the rear wheel has 3 spoke types I got 4 of each, of the for sure correct spokes and 4 nipples. All for $32....I wish I would have heard from them 2 days earlier....Aah well, just a heads up incase someone runs across this problem again. Grahams, paypal, the way to go!

Had this tank made before going to Oz , the Guy made it from Aluminium, holds a little over 25 litres, good for 300 miles/500 kms.

The bash plate I had made at a metalshop from 4 mm. Aluminium from a folded cardboard pattern I suplied. I figured that the three sided shape would protect the engine in the event of a crash/wreck (which it has).

awesome, thanks! that bash plate looks awesome, I'm going to have to get one made too. I'm slowely getting my bike ready for some long hauls, the tank is a good idea too, i had been looking into those bolt on luggage rack tanks that you can splice into the line, but it would be nice to have that room open for other gear.
