Polisport Handguards

Postby BlueRidgePanther » Wed May 07, 2008 3:09 pm

I was wondering if anyone who has the polisport handguards could post some pictures showing how they're mounted. I was trying to mount mine yesterday and my controls keep getting in the way. I'm using the stock bar and stock controls. Is that a problem?

I don't have them (I've got Acerbis Rallye Pros), but I know at least a couple of folks on here do.

Your controls shouldn't be a problem if you've got one of the "open" models (i.e., handguard doesn't connect to the bar end). Maybe it's just a matter of getting the proper mounting hardware. Here's their catalog:

http://www.polisport.com/img_upload/2008_catalogue_2nd.version_PDF.pdf

Maybe you can find an adapter in there that will help.

Now, if you've got a "closed" handguard that wraps around to the bar end, and by "my controls keep getting in the way" you mean that your brake/clutch levers can't operate because they're too long, then you do have a problem. You can peruse the many hundreds of posts on this site relating to finding a solution to this problem, but from my vast experience in this area, here are your choices:

1. For a "no mods" installation, just rotate your brake/clutch perches down (or rotate handguards up) so that the levers extend under the handguards.

2. If the above isn't to your liking, you can buy an aftermarket "shorty" clutch lever for a 1998-ish KTM LC4 that will fit nicely under the handguard.

3. There is NO SOLUTION like suggestion 2 above for the brake lever. Therefore, you either go with suggestion 1, or you cut your brake lever. Period.
