Removing (Cutting) Upper Fairing Stays

Postby sign216 » Mon Mar 03, 2008 2:42 pm

What problems might result from cutting and removing a section of the upper fairing stays of a Sport Cup, to allow me to mount the handlebars and risers I'd like?

HB7 (Henri) suggested cutting fairing stays, and it sounds like a good solution. I've heard that it will result in excessive vibration of the stock mirrors, but I could switch to barend mirrors.
Are there any other issues I should know? Has anyone else tried this fix?

I cut them away first thing, right from the word go! Didn't use those truck mirrors, tho. hier 9is a picture of the beast in "original" condition before I turned it into my racer.

Now ist is back to something approaching street legal, as above without the stays and without the lower extensions of the stays either.

Bill, thanks for giving me your experience. Yea, I'll cut the fairing stays. If the mirrors vibrate too much then I'll switch them over.
