? on MZ Skorpion Torque Specs (rear brake)

Postby DucMon800S » Fri Jan 11, 2008 9:24 pm

Hi,
I have an MZ Skorpion. Does anybody know how many footpounds the rear brake bolts should be torqued. Thanks!

disc to wheel, or caliper to swing arm? I tighten the caliper bolts to about 22ft lbs, with blue locktite. the disc bolts with blue locktite with a 6' allen wrench, untill I feel they are tight enough, would probably guess in the 15-18 ft lb range.

hope this helps.

You could probably google the specs for a Yamaha R6, should be a good starting point.

I did this, and got specs for a Virago, disc to wheel 14ft lbs, caliper 25ft lbs. I was pretty close.

here are all relevant torques for metric thread and various materials of course in metric values of m/kg.

since you are probably tightening the original "butter-soft" bolt into aluminum, don't overdo it. Go for a less than the standard, about 35m/kg.

Be careful about using Loctite on allen-head screws. Most probaby you will end up "milling" out the hex with the allen key when you try to remove them the next time, unless you heat up the part first. This is what I encounter most, with Yamahas, too.

When you do successfully remove the bolts on a Skorpion, replace them with 12.8 quality, apply grease to the threads and use a Schnorr safety washer, not a lock washer which only ruins everything to no advantage.
