MZ/MuZ Riders

Hello all,
I have been lurking here for a while and doing research about my beloved 2000 Baggie supermoto. The one thing I cannot find any definite information on is the slternatives to buying the stock enduro wheels that came on the Baggies. I have read ever post on here that I can find that has anything to do with this matter and here is what I have gathered.

93'ish XT600ee hubs MAY be a bolt in affair.?.?.?
Mid 90's KTM 18 & 21 inch wheels may bolt in with some spacer mods, but what models do these wheels come from?

I know there are people who have walked this road before I, and I would be greatful if you would share some of your vast knowledge.

On a side note if anyone has some enduro wheels they would like to see, I am your man. THanks all, and here is a pic of my 2000 MZ.

Do you really wanna do this? I think the Baghi is a bit heavy and appears fragile for rough terrain.
besides, your bike is too good looking to be thrown into the dirt.

Yeah I am pretty sure. Besides I am not talking about MX here, I just want to run around and do some adventure touring. I think the MZ will shine at this. I know the bike is pretty, but I can paint and fab so if I break it, I will fix it. It will be fitted with crashbars and skid plates before I get into anything too serious. I am thinking more along these lines.

Well I am running Avon Distanzias right now and I will let you kow how they do in some light dirt, gravel stuff tomorrow. Still would like to have a spare set of wheels with knobbies for snow, sand, mud, etc. Not to mention a 21" front is much better offroad, it goes over obstacles better due to higher centerline.

Been there done exactly all that. I purchased a bike complete with an unused set of factory dirt wheels last May. Sold the SM to my best friend, kept the wheel set for myself. In the mean time ran a couple sets of Distanzias. They do noticeable better on gravel and such than regular street tires, but wear like gum erasers (rear anyway). I have limited miles on the dirt wheel set, but they are everything you think they would be. I've probably increased my pace on forest roads by 10-15 mph. GOTTA remember they are not the sticky 17s when it comes to the twisty stuff though! The Baggi is MORE than capable of ADV touring stuff, more so than any KLR for sure, as stock anyway.

Included with the wheel set (I think you could get it as a package) was a longer sidestand, different front caliper bracket, 45T rear sprocket, new chain, and both wheels with tires (some odd German brand, look like Sahara 3s).

My Baggi currently has an Avon Pro Extreme Rain on the front and an Avon Storm on the front. I went on a ride with my 2 sons yesterday and we went down a green lane with this about half way down it

No real problems, I just took it slow. Well slower than my 2 sons anyway as there bikes are a little lighter than the Baggi (XR650R and a DRZ400), plus they have the same front as me, but with Distanza's on the rear.
BTW this is a good site for UK riders as it gives a basis for a ride out. See how many of your local fords you can visit

It would be super sweet to be able to just swap wheel real quick and know I was prepared for hatever may come my way, but it looks like the stock packages are few and far between. So for now I bought this to try and fit, if I can't get it to work I will sell it to the KTM guys. It is an excel 21 x 2.125 from a 1997 KTM 250. Wish me luck.

I really wouldn't bother. I have 3 sets of wheels for my Baggi.
Set 1, SM rims with Pro extreme rain front and Storm rear
Set 2, SM rims with Maxis Gold speed cut slick (for those warm summer days )
Set 3, Of road wheels with Perelli MT21's fitted. Only used for serious off road days and motocross track days.
I hardly ever use the off road wheels as the SM wheels perform OK for me

yes, it is an XT600ee hub set (front and rear) about $140 for the front at Yamaha. The XT came with Steel rims, but and good spoke scource can get you a spoke set to lace an excell to that hub.

i bought a KTM Desert 500 early 90's rear, has a cush hub, really wide rim (has like a 510 tire on it) and it will bolt into the swingarm, just have to sort the sprocket and disc. I have a 2002 KTM front that will need custom spacers, and sprocket. i am going to probably buy the Yamaha hub and re-lace the front, and fit the rear.


BTW, stand in line for some wheels, been waiting patiently for a stock set to come available for quite some time!

Luckily my buddy needed a Baggi, but I was prepared to just turn the bike around just so I could have the wheel set..

I just put a stock Baghira front hub and Enduro rear wheel up for sale on ebay. Could easily be relaced either way.
There is also a slim chance that Jeff from Detroit Eurocycles still has SM wheel available even though he has closed the store. Try contacting him through his user name on this site "BigHairy".
