Hi,

I know this topic has been covered before but what is the opinion on drilling front /rear axles 6.8mm and tapping 8mm to mount skateboard wheels as sliders.

My daughter broke her mini skateboard yesterday and I have nicked her wheels to use as axle sliders. So far i have drilled the front left hand side on the bike as it was already centre drilled. I may have a go at the other side this evening. But would benefit from putting the spindle in a lathe to centre it up. Any views on strength, drilling 6.8mm has anyone done this already to back / front. have you had any problems ?

Thanks Alun..

drilled and tapped mine to 8x 1.25. they have hit the ground twice and worked. make sure you use some kind of bushing in the center of the wheel so you can tighten them down, the first time I crashed with them, one of them spun off...

cheers for that what i did was remove the bearing from on side of the wheel and screwed it down real tight i drilled and tapped the hold 25mm tapped into axle. the nut side slider almost completely covers the nut, and is a nice tight fit over the nut it actually leaves an impression into the wheel. the other side of the axle which has a flat on it just screws down real tight to the fork leg completely covering the flats of the axle.

Is the idea of these sliders that they should spin ? Because mine dont not sure if they should otherwise its back to the drawing board with some extra washers / bearings...

Next onto the rear...

Thanks For now Alun

no they do not need to spin. good job! mine fit the same way, they have flats in them for the nut from tightening them down.

Yeah,

I got my front ones fitted. only problem was that they were bright yellow. so i Scotch padded them and sprayed them black with pound shop aerosol. need to get some rubber grommets / bungs to stick in the ends to cover up the bolts or. get some trick button head stainless A4 bolts and polish them all told another goos job and all helps to tidy my bike up... Next step is drill the rears and pin the one bolt on the other side to prevent it spinning and get some nice stainless adlusters made up. Also taking a close look tonoght at my dog bones and may get some polished stainless items made up, as well as some polished stainless front engine plates. God i'm fussy.......

skate wheels are pretty inexpensive. My wife got me a set for the bike for christmas, they are black and say "Autobahn" around them in red. Totally sweet!!!!!!!!
