MZ/MuZ Riders

Hey guys,

I have found a good condition mz baghira to buy. it is year 2000, supermoto model, he says it was height reduced and he lowered it even further.

now, a couple things, he told me that the front shock has bound and rebound adjustments... i thought the front was not adjustable on the HR models??

Also, he lowered the front end further by extending the shocks further up into the triple clamp. he said he extended it up almost 2 inches.
as for the rear, he said he took out spring preload to lower the rear, he did not use any dog bone links. I assume there is a perch on the shock casing that allows you adjust the height of the spring, he said he is 1 inch away from the bottom of the thread.

he assured me the suspension is very stable and has he has not had any problems riding like this.

in addition he has the m4 exhaust as well as new carbs and diablo perelli tires.

he is an older gentleman of 55 and he has been riding for over twenty years. he doesn't have the stock carbs nor the stock exhaust.. how much should i offer him.. he wants 4k which is a bit high given that parts are now harder to get here in the united states.

I have never seen a mz first hand yet, but i do believe they are nice bikes, i have been looking at bikes for a long time now and finally have the money to purchase..

The HR version doesnt have adjustable front forks. It uses the same suspension set up as the Mastiff.
The forks could be dropped through the yokes but only by about 10mm (just less than 1/2") unless he has put risers under the bar mounts.
You could reduce the pre-load to lose hieght as it will sag more at the rear but this isnt the way to go to get a good handling bike.
If the suspension is standard other than his tinkering then dont worry too much as you can put it back to standard or lower it properly. There is no problem getting a suspension shop to shorten and revalve the full hieght forks ...I did this on my HR bike by buying the full hieght adjustables and getting them shortened. I presume a full hieght rear shock could be shortened in a similar manner but I dont know for sure. The dog bones could be changed to lower the rear even if you have to get a local shop to fabricate them (elsewhere on this site somebody has used Hyabusa dogbones which give 3 positions ....fitted to a scorpion though I think). Non standard carbs ...depends on what they are as to whether they are OK and how the bike runs and picks up. The M4 can is loud but I had no problems with it ....other than it being illegally loud for the UK so I sold it.

moving the tubes up will lower the ride height
but changes rake to trail if rear not lowered the same
this can resualt in a bike that is a quicker handler
or is unstable

my saxon tour had a rear tire that was to large
it was a beast till i got the tire changed
it jacked the back of the bike up almost 12mm and made it a beast

the stuff changed can be undone and if you want one get it now
because these things will not be sold tooo often in the near future
as the collectors start keeping them with "not for sale stickers" on them

$4K looks good when compared to the lame F650CS, ancient KLR650 or fragile KTM640....
