BRAAP... I've basically been mixing a sport front with sport-tour rear for years. Combos have run the gammut from the old Pirelli Dragon front with Michelin Macadam rear, BT010 front with BT020 rear, Metzler M1 front with Z6 rear... you get the picture. I've never run track-day/GP/Corsa or whatever tires on the street, they are meant for track use, not 6 or 8 months of street use in all weather and such. And I have zero chicken strips on my tires.

Done this on several Ducati's, Z1000, and the Baggi. Works well for all bikes and all occasions. The sport front gives you all the confidence you need for hard sport riding and the honestly the S-T rears do the same. I've never liked a single S-T front I've tried, so now stick with sport fronts only and usually go with a S-T rear. Although I just ordered a set of Pirelli Diablos. I've even mixed brands up if needing a tire on a trip or whatever. Never had a single issue, never really notice that much difference except that new tires are always better!

I've been mounting my own tires for years now. Best thing I ever did was make a bead breaker out of basically 2x4s mounted on garage wall. Works excellent, zero effort required. Anybody that understands leverage can build one. I don't even bother balancing tires anymore. After fussing about if for the first 4 or 5 sets of tires I did, I soon realized motorcycle tires need need almost no balancing (seems its the WHEEL more than the tire..) from set to set, so I just quit. I've never had a tire wear oddly or vibrate or track bad, etc. so don't bother.

well, that's my $0.04 worth anyway..

Thanks for the info all... .

I like the idea of mixing sports front with a harder wearing compound on the rear.

This seems to be the best compromise for my mostly commuter-moto with the usual red mist on the twisties !

time to find the padlock key for my wallet !

I also believe in running a sport tire in front and sport touring out back. My Baghira cooks rear tires quickly :P

ROGER THAT! I don't understand how a 50 hp single can eat tires as fast as my last 130 hp 1000. Guess the cornering and braking loads are pretty much the same, and that generates all the wear.

Or if you are like most out there, 50bhp is enough power for most situations and thats all you may have been using out of the possable 130bhp available :)

i said it a couple of times with some coments but i'm driving a tourance reartire and its the best alternative i hade ever!! on track i drive 014 from brigestone but these wearout VERRY quick! the tourance hase allready 3000miles on it and still much profile on it, i even think it is not half of what i can use in profile. bike runs a little faster (it is a high tire) but with a larger sprocket this can be fixed. and cornering is even better!!! at front i drive a rain tire (i buy these second hand from track drivers) front i set 2bar and rear 2.1/2.2 seems the tires wearout less and give more grip but you need to adjust to the fact the bike living a little more on the tire. my brother in law allso fitted these and so far no comments so i think he is happy to! and the tourance is a cheap tire!! 115 euro fore a rear 150/70/17

and yes i hade the rear brake out a couple off times but still becaus i made mistake or tried to slide it. what i notised what that it kept controleable. and everyone who says his tire does not slide is just not deep enauhg or does just roles on the trottle to late or to smooth. if you drive a lean corner at lo speed and your mz is at 4000-5000 rpm and you jam on the trottle it WILL SLIDE! with anny tire
