BRAAP... I've basically been mixing a sport front with sport-tour rear for years. Combos have run the gammut from the old Pirelli Dragon front with Michelin Macadam rear, BT010 front with BT020 rear, Metzler M1 front with Z6 rear... you get the picture. I've never run track-day/GP/Corsa or whatever tires on the street, they are meant for track use, not 6 or 8 months of street use in all weather and such. And I have zero chicken strips on my tires.
Done this on several Ducati's, Z1000, and the Baggi. Works well for all bikes and all occasions. The sport front gives you all the confidence you need for hard sport riding and the honestly the S-T rears do the same. I've never liked a single S-T front I've tried, so now stick with sport fronts only and usually go with a S-T rear. Although I just ordered a set of Pirelli Diablos. I've even mixed brands up if needing a tire on a trip or whatever. Never had a single issue, never really notice that much difference except that new tires are always better!
I've been mounting my own tires for years now. Best thing I ever did was make a bead breaker out of basically 2x4s mounted on garage wall. Works excellent, zero effort required. Anybody that understands leverage can build one. I don't even bother balancing tires anymore. After fussing about if for the first 4 or 5 sets of tires I did, I soon realized motorcycle tires need need almost no balancing (seems its the WHEEL more than the tire..) from set to set, so I just quit. I've never had a tire wear oddly or vibrate or track bad, etc. so don't bother.
well, that's my $0.04 worth anyway..
