Power Dynamo 12 volt system!

Postby Pat the Jawa » Sat Jun 04, 2016 1:32 am

If anyone is interested I've just fitted the Power Dynamo 12 volt system to my MZ TS250/1 and so far it's great. Was a bit nervous connecting the electrical wiring as all connections must be correct or there's a high risk of damage to the electronic regulator. Having said that, the instructions are very straightforward and fairly easy to follow as long as you take your time. I did have one unforseen problem in that the manufacturers advise the use of a metal shielded spark plug cap, which I purchased, but after much frustration turned out to be faulty. I have replaced the cap with an NGK plastic cap and everything works fine. The bike starts easier and runs super smooth - to be honest there's no increase in power but it's reliable which makes all the difference.

in my years working on bikes that metal shielded spark plug cap
has been a BIG PROBLEM its there to keep the radio energy the system transmits
out of AM and FM radios and TV sets
i live where it is very damp all the time and it does not work very well
on the old bmw bikes in the 1960's it was usually the first part on a new bike
to GO MISSING

I can remember as a teenager the old metal shrouded plug caps fitted to many bikes - the first thing we always did was fit an NGK plug cap.

The biggest downfall of the MZ's in my opinion is the dependancy on a good battery. Interesting considering the customer it was sold to.

I have a relay that clicks low beam on as well as high beam when high beam is activated. The battery drains pretty rapidly when left on with the engine off, and the engine only just covers the voltage required when the bike is running (when idle anyway).

I used the relay that Power Dynamo supply, as per their instructions, to turn the system on using the ignition key. The lights come on as they are supposed to on the third position of the ignition key.
