Replacement for BVF 30N2-5

Postby Blurredman » Thu May 12, 2016 8:39 am

Hello guys.

I'm thoroughly getting annoyed now with my MZ ETZ250. After probably 2 years of wonderful motoring on my MZ, the past year and a half have been a constant battle with the carburettor. I keep cleaning it and I get different results each time I clear through the jets. The idle gradually goes down to nothing, cruising at a lower RPM eventually stalls with engine that won't start until I stop completely and in general it feels resistent. It used to be very revvy.

I'm looking for replacements now, this carburettor has almost done 30k and I am thinking it's a possibility that things that have gradually worn and somewhat been overlookable have now become problematic completely.

My brother has replaced his BVF 30N2-5 with a reproduction and I would buy one too but I am not entirely enthused by how well it runs (seems to have a flat spot at various ranges). And I'm undecided upon the quality, esspecially concerning the original carburettor's are pretty poor.

I was looking at the Mikuni VM30 and it seems several people have looked into this and suggested this carburettor. Is isn't too much more expensive than the re-production and I think I might buy the Jap one instead.

Has anyone had first hand experience with this? And if so what were their results? I don't mind too much the fuel economy, the bike is pretty good at 50-60mpg around town and 70 on the motorway. The lack of power and dodgy running is what I wish resolved.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the new BVFs are crap. The vast majority of people fitting them seem to be having problems. Probably the best people to talk to are Allens who have Mikuni's set up for various MZs. However they don't seem to be exactly plug and play and need tweeking to make them run right. There are several hreads about them on the FB group MZ Riders Group
