TS 250 won't tick over

Postby Pat the Jawa » Sat Apr 30, 2016 2:38 pm

I'm sure this topic has been well covered but my TS 250/1 won't tick over. I have found mention online of drilling out the idle jet to cure the problem - has anyone tried this and found it successful and what is the drill correct drill size? I have fitted a new float valve and set the float height to 27mm as per the workshop manual but this hasn't improved it at all. The engine either revs too high on over run or just dies as soon as the revs drop below about 1500. I've got used to blipping the throttle to keep the engine revving. Any help would be much appreciated. I've got electronic ignition that I'll be fitting soon which might help.

Thanks for your comments Dave. I can't find any air leaks in the exhaust system but it is an after market item fitted by the previous owner so could still be causing the idle problem. I'll have to keep the exhaust as fitted as it's too expensive to replace. I'll pull the baffles out to check they're as per the original MZ exhausts.

Have cured the lack of tick over - followed the advice from another forum and drilled out the pilot jet from 0.35mm to 0.50mm. the engine starts first kick when warm with no throttle and ticks over very smoothly.
