Saxon Sportstar no spark

Postby MattH » Sat Jan 23, 2016 3:33 pm

Hello everyone
I have a Saxon Sportstar 125 from 94, that fails to start. It had been sat for about a year, so put in a new battery and it started first time. Had to push it down to an MOT, which it passed, but by the time I got it back it failed to start. Everything looked fine, just no spark. I tested the PVL ignition sensor, and found that it was at fault. Couldn't find any other short, damaged wire, loose connection etc. Engine and stator housing appear to be properly earthed. I replaced the sensor, rechecked everything, replaced cover, tried to kick it up, and blow the new sensor.
Does anyone have any ideas what caused the sensor to go? Don't want to put in anything else unless I can work out what caused it.
Thanks
Matt

It's got a 12v battery.
No condenser that I can see, the sensor goes straight into the coil. Everything worked fine, until I had to push it for its MOT, but I can't see how that would damage the replacement sensor.

The PVL is known for being pretty carp. They die if you look at them the wrong way and MZ issued a 5 page book for dealers telling them what not to do with them. Probably best replacing with something like this
