MAIN FUSE BLOWING ON TS 250

Postby millhouse mark » Sun Oct 05, 2014 3:12 pm

Started bike up after a few minutes main fuse blew, put new one in same again after a few minutes. removed recently fitted electronic flasher unit, removed recently fitted rear brake light switch. Blew fuse again. Removed cover from mechanical voltage regulator & a bit of smoke! right hand set of points sparking all time?
Removed unit & fitted another mechanical regulator & this time no sparking & fuse did not blow, then this regulator started sparking on r/h points but fuse did not blow.
Reluctant to ride bike & get stranded any advise would be appreciated.

Also noticed with electronic flasher fitted the charging/indicator light flasher even with indicators off? sometimes? gone back to old mech one for time being but flasher are now crap again!

I am running an AGM battery could this not be compatible with old mechanical regulator? Do I buy an electronic regulator.
Would rather understand the problem before spending any money.

As an aside when it starts from cold with full choke when choke is pushed back the revs rise to about 3k & eventually drop back as engine gets some temp in. The symptoms are like an air leak but this cant be the case as when running there are no adverse effects & the plug colour is a lovely light brown?

Any good sparks out there?

regards
