Make yourself a hydraulic bike lift

Postby den » Sat Jun 07, 2014 2:37 pm

So heres my hydraulic bike lift, As you can see its made from an old car jack, new ones can be bought for £25,motorbike lifts can be bought for £90,i welded a square plate on top and added some loops on the side and front to lock the bike down via the foot pegs,,thats what the hooks and threaded bar resting on the top plate are for , for security i drilled a hole in the sides and added a removable pin to allow the jack to be released of pressure yet the bike still be off ground,,the chains there so i don't lose it ,the extra outriggers are made up of 1.5 mill box section and the windable adjusters and made from cut up G clamps..study the photo and make one yourself,,

i have been using 2 small chain hoists and hanging it from the shop ceiling
always tie a safety rope to the ceiling so it does not fall on you
Even when its setting on the floor
i had an BMWr90s for 28 years it had a spring loaded side stand
you learned to tie it off very quickly because just a minor bump and it was falling over

When I had some money ( that was a while back) I bought myself a proper platform bike lift. best money I ever spent, especially now I have a buggered knee ( you really don't want a tibial plateau fracture, believe me!).
