Little Help: MZ Skorpion Cam Chain

Postby keruxer » Thu May 22, 2014 8:16 am

Hi Guys;

I have some top end noise on a 97 skorpion 660 with about 25K miles on her. I thought it sounded like piston slap and then checked the cam chain tensioner. When I removed it I saw that it was at full extension. I am assuming then that the noise I am hearing is slack in the cam chain. If that makes sense can someone advise me as to where I can get a new cam chain and what else should/could be changed while I am in there? I really appreciate the help and advise.

Where are you located, so that we can recommend a source?

If I remember correctly, many engine parts are shared with the Yamaha 660 Raptor ATV, SZR 660 and XTZ660 Ténéré. So, a Yamaha dealer might be able to supply the needed parts. I'd replace the timing chain and both guides as well (numbers 12, 13 and 14 on the diagram linked to).
