kick start shaft

Postby big mac » Mon Oct 28, 2013 7:56 pm

just as i thought I was getting the 301 sorted disaster strikes . went to the garage this morn kicked it over but the kick didn't engage the kick start returns but it feels like the shaft has broken or rounded off
is it a major job to replace the shaft and what else could I expect to find
at the moment not sure if im going to stick it on ebay or press on
cheers dean

Stands a chance it's just the spring riding up over the shoulder of the shaft as they do. Give the end of the kick start shaft a quick sharp tap with Thor, King of Hammers and the chances are the spring will pop off the shoulder, and you will be back in business.

A more permanent fix can be made by removing the clutch cover, dismantling the kick start mechanism and fitting one of these '29 46 113 Check Plate' between the spring and the shoulder.

I can't remember the exact details, but they are available in one of the forums or blogs, and if you google it, you should get more info. :-D
