running problem

Postby big mac » Sun Sep 29, 2013 1:25 pm

took my 301 out for its maiden voyage this afternoon and all seemed fine revved strong through the gears but when I was sat in top gear it popped and farted and the engine died. when I let the throttle of it picked up and seemed fine for a 400 meters then it died again this happened over my 20 mile run.
cleaned the carb and all seems fine the needle is set on the top groove so wondered if anyone can let me know how there carb is set up
its a bing 84

Not sure of Bing settings but Ive just looked at one on my bench ( from a 301) and the needle is a 4E1 and the clip is in the 3rd of 4 grooves counted from the top. Just a thought.. have you checked that the hole in the fuel cap isn't blocked?
