Postby daveb6303 » Fri Sep 21, 2012 10:04 am

Hi guys my instrument lights have stopped working on my 98 skorpion traveller. i did what any normal person would do and replaced the bulbs 2x large bulb at top of cluster and 2 x small bulbs at the bottom. so 4 new bulbs and still no instrument lighting? have i missed a fuse? i know there are 3 under the seat hope someone in the community can help

i have had a lot of trouble with the wire connector plugs on my bikes
check all the plug in connectors on the harness

if a bunch of stuff is out look at the ground wire (earth)
its usually brown in a German wiring harness

i also forgot that dirty switches on the handle bar can cause problems
maybe not the problems you have though

did a good clean on my left handle bar switch last week
did wonders for getting the turn signals to go on and off...
and the horn to work

WARNING look close when you take it apart its a bit of a jigsaw puzzle
and remember do not break any thing as spares are ???? with out buying a whole unit
dave

look at a company called sudco they have a bunch of stuff for bikes

broken wires are possible
the diameter of some of the wires is very small
some wire is made from recycled copper and the inside of the wire turns into green slime

i have a truck that is having this problem to the rear tail lamps

bad contact between bulbs and the bulb holder

fuse that looks and tests good with a meter
but will not pass enough current to make a bulb work
had this happen several time in the last 10 years ,in both bikes and 2 way radios

what are the 4 lights for :?: :?: ,if clock lights then check you have a feed out to bulbs,i assume head and tail are working so you will have the feed in to switch, not familiar with skorps though, but wires is wires :-D good luck

dash lights on most bikes work off the same fuse as the brake lamp switch
make sure the rear brake lamp is working

they are in parallel with the lamp powered by the same fuse so you can tell fuse is blown

Have checked the 3 fuses i can find and all are intact. the brake light is fully functional as are main and dipped. side light is not working but will remove bulb this weekend, weather permitting, and check. as for wiring all looks intack and the connectors in the bulb holder look nice and clean with no corrosion. i spoke to the only MZ dealer in the UK today and was quoted just over £600.00 for a replacement set. each part is sold separately not as a whole!! so if anyone has an un wanted set or knows of a set of instruments i would appreciate it you could contact me.

hi dave,where are you based?
should be fairly easy to do and assuming the instructions are understandable and it replaces all the functions you have/need at the mo,tacho, miles, odometer, temp, indicators, high beam, neutral etc. also will it run on any number of cylinders,in your case just the one :?:
i know the trail tech and acewell units do and they are a uk purchase and have fitted both types to baghiras quite easily, never been keen on buying stuff on the other side of the world thats sort of techy should there be a issue with it,but may well be fine.cheers rodge

How did you get on? Which unit did you go for? I'm toying with the idea of new clocks on my Mastiff.
