Advice please......

Postby Trogolodyte » Tue Aug 07, 2012 4:40 am

I have an Etz251 (g reg 1988) converted to a 301. I also have a Etz301 engine and frame that I want to restore, the 301 has electronic ignition (EI) that I was wanting to use on my newly restored and converted 251/301 lump. The question I have is, will the rotor/stator and the Ei sensor unit transfer onto the 251's crankshaft end as is, or would it need some modifications, or would it be just be just as easy to run the old points set up?...

if it fits make sure timing is on spec. at high rpm
you don't need any holy pistons :-D

a good spark makes a bike run better
a friend put one of the powerdyno systems on a bmw /2 r69s
said it run like a new bike
and all his Carb problems went away because the plugs now fire the gas proper

My first bike was a Ke 100 kawasaki, timing shifted when I was about 100 miles from home, at 2am, it had a nice little holy piston. Took me the better part of the next day to get home and into work. The only other time I have had a stroker fail on me was when I riding my Etz 125 std home from passing my bike test, the inlet manifold vibrated lose and she seized up solid at 65mph...

It appears to have been a dodgy voltage regulator...
