Engine fitment Es250

Postby puckshole » Tue May 08, 2012 12:56 pm

Just wondering if anyone has fitted an ETZ251 engine in a Trophy if so what problems will I have to overcome

I been offered what I think is as near as damn it a 1970 Trophy 250 rolling chassis .
I have the remains of a 1995 ETz 251 inc a good engine . I know I will have to change the wiring harness to 12 volt is there any other issues I will have to deal with . I havnt seen the frame yet but thought it would be good to have a " modern " Trophy on the road for very little money .

Your thoughts please .

There was sombody trying to do this earlier on this year, unfortunatly I cannot find the thread. He had to fabricate some forward mounts for the front of the engine. Another problem was the carb faces one way on the ES250, and the other on the ETZ251.

I'mgoing to be trying the same thing a bit alter in the year. I have a ETS 250 that I want to put an ETZ engine in so I have the old chassis and looks combined with the better 5 speed engine. I have seen a Trophy chassis that was for sale on ebay a while ago that had mounts for engine plates welded to the front tube of the frame and than plates made up to suit. Hopefully one of us will make some headway and then post the results! I have also seen someone weld the top hanger ( the large round one with the rubber bush) to the top tube of a Trophy frame but apparently this caused problems - but I can't remember why!
