ts 125 no start

Postby ananda » Wed Mar 07, 2012 7:04 pm

Hi all,

It's been running shoddy as in 15-20 mph on sllght hills. It has cut out a few times, twice on steep hills when dropping down to 1st and revving, once when trying to push at high revs - it bump started ok in these situations...

Today I had my ts 125 timed up by a chap who used to work for Wilf Green, 15+ years. It made little difference to the performance, pulling no better but it got me home, 12 miles. I think the exhaust may have too much resistance due to corrosion and build up.

Then it cut out near my home and wouldn't start again. I checked the fuel supply there was a little crud in the fuel filter so I checked the carb - there was a tiny amount of sediment inthe float bowl but otherwise clean. I put the carburetor back on and now it pees fuel out of the pinhole at the front.
Can anyone offer me any help - is the float bowl now set wrong to make it pour fuel out? And why will it not fire?

Best guess:
Carb and tank probably need a clean, a check and putting back together. If it didn't pee before and it pees now then you have upset something or not refitted quite right - easy to do.

I would suspect the exhaust - bin it and buy a new one - there is a lot of talk about cleaning them but at the end of the day you can have one you know is clean from a variety of sources for not more than a modest night out.

Check your plug for mix and change your airfilter. I would change the plug for a hot one B7HS as a matter of course.

Right, now that is the basics.

I would also check the ignition switch - they are simple and tough but I have seen one which had a "soft" connection where the tang was not tight enough and that caused no end of problems - use a continuity tester.

Check you earth is clean and that your battery is in good nick - 6V doesn't give you much to play with.

Let us know how you get on
All the best

Thanks for the ideas. I thought I'd stopped the carb overflowing by adjusting the floats, guessing i must have bent them (by the tiniest amount).
So now the float bowl doesn't fill up. I've taken out the valve that is actuated by the floats and can't get anything through it, open or closed. I guess this means it is blocked... I've blown air through It and now is having a nice soak in petrol - I will try and clear it again, but I was wondering where to get a new one?

I may also try and clean it with carb cleaner and would like to try something like easy start into the manifold just to prove that it will fire.
Any further advice is very welcome

But why not spend a few quid on a potato and a pound of caustic? If it works you can have a clean exhaust and then spend what you have saved on a modest night out. It's the Z-Cred way dontcha know! :D

I would have said Fred Rogers for the float valve but Phil Speakman has bought up all his stock and will be trading from the 1st of May

had issues with the ts 150 same problem check and make sure your air filter is tight a loose one will allow too much O2 and use bulb contact on everything. Make sure your battery is fully charged and try running it at a higher speed once and turning the switch to parking light and see if your spark catches up. If it does you have a issue with either your coil points gap or spark gap
