MZ RT 125 Starter Problems

Hi,
I just bought a MZ RT 125 for my birthday. I have it two weeks and the starter motor wont start the bike. It spins freely instead of connecting to the engine and turning it over. I push start it and take it for a drive and sometimes it works for a second but then it wont connect again. What could be the problem? Do i need a new starter motor or does it need new brushes or a solenoid? I dont really want to spend 250 sterling for a new starter. Please let me know soon as the weather is nice and im wrecked from pushing it around to start it:-(
