Skorpion front disc bolt replacement

Postby djsbriscoe » Sun Jun 06, 2010 10:59 am

Hi,
The front disc bolts on my skorpion are rusty and I would like to replace them before my MOT test. I will be using the standard OEM bolts from Grahams (unless better ones are available). Are there any recommendations regarding the correct replacement of these bolts.
Do I need to use any locking fluid and if so can anyone suggest which type? How is the best way to torque up the bolts? What torque setting should I use? Anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks.

David.

P.S Should there be any movement/looseness in the disc when it is attached correctly? Some suggested that there should be as the disc is 'floating'.

I got Ti screws from Pro-Bolt and some from somewhere else. (I think the Pro-Bolt ones are for a Ducati, can't remember if they're the front or rear ones.) Neither fit properly, the problem with the front set is that the bearing surface against the rotor is slightly smaller diameter than the OEM ones...and similar problem with the rear ones (can't remember.)

As per the MZ Baghira manual specs:

rear 10+2 + Loctite
front 4+1 + Loctite

The +2 and +1 are degrees rotation. (MZ liked that, they specified everything like that.)

What I wonder about is that for Ti, Pro-Bolt say to use anti-seize because of the galling tendency of Ti, and they even supply some, but...brake rotors should have thread-locker...?

Hi,
Turns out that what I refered to as bolts are actually called bobbins. The parts that are rusty are the riveted on bobbins that hold the steel disc onto the alloy spider. Grahams say they are designed to be SLIGHTLY loose as the bobbins (or disc) expand when hot.
I dont think there is anywhere that these bobbins can be replaced. If anyone knows of anywhere please let me know for future reference.
Thanks,

David.

David,

Several years ago (2000?) I replaced the bobbins on my Sport with some from a newer R type BMW model. If I remember they were very easy to replace. Most of the newer BMW use Brembo so I would check the standard size that Brembo offers. EBC may also sell bobbins only that might fit. Most EBC front race rotors come with spare bobbins.

I've just sent a technical enquiry to EBC about the MD619RS front rotor thats listed on their website.

http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/bike/par ... &sec=Euro#

When they reply regarding compatibilty I'll post the info here.
Where did you get the bobbins you referred to?

EBC catalogs here: http://www.ebcbrakes.com/catalogues.html

If you don't get the information you need from ebcdirect, maybe EBC themselves would help: http://www.ebcbrakes.com/contact.shtml
