Baghira Clutch Cable

Postby RR » Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:51 pm

My Baggy's clutch linkage came apart a couple of days ago. The little ball and sleeve at the lever end came loose from the cable.

I have one on order, but while I wait for it to make its way across the country and down the coast, I'm looking for alternative medicine. I'm working to reattach, epoxy, change the end piece, whatever. Nothing satisfactory so far.

Anybody know of a compatible part from another bike, magic hardware or roadside tech that can get me rolling again?

Thanks,

RR

Same thing happened to me Thursday, fortunately I had a spare cable and brass barrel. MZs have cheap old style cables. I always keep a spare, and carry it with me on long trips.

I repaired the C cable on my Skorpion. If you have the piece that pulled off the cable, it can be soldered back on. Pass the cable thru it and seperate the strands and bend them back over. Then solder it. Some people like silver solder, others std plumbing solder.

It would be nice to find a modern direct replacement with the barrel an integral part of the cable.

Thanks, DEmark

After several failed repairs, I finally got something that worked. I slipped the cable back into the sleeve and sank a small screw with red Loctite down through the ball. Permanent and it still fit inside the brass barrel.

Problem: I'm an idiot. I had taken the cable out of the sleeve to work on it. Once I got the ball and sleeve secure, there was no way to slip it back through.

I give up. I'll just wait for the new cable to come. Patience sucks.
