Float level

Was wondering if anyone has come across float level problems? To explain - to get my MZ Supa 5 to run something like it I've had to lower the fuel level by 3mm. The correct float level measurement is 27mm, measured with the carburettor upside down, whereas mine is 30mm. I had the float set to 27mm but was getting around 45/50 to the gallon and loads of smoke. I've checked the jets are the correct sizes and fitted a new float valve so not sure what to look at next. The bike has done in the region of 44,000 miles so the carburettor is obviously worn but can't find any noticeable wear that would affect its running. Any help would be much appreciated

Managed to get a second hand carburettor which wasn't too badly worn so problem sorted

I think the spring in the float valve goes weak. Also, check for leaky floats.

Thanks for your post - I replaced the float valve and checked the float for leaks and it was fine. A mentioned in previous post I've found a second hand carburettor which so far is working fine. Having said that the float valve is leaking slightly causing the carburettor to overflow slightly if I forget to turn the fuel off when I stop - sometime I'll take the new float valve out of the old carb and swop it over.

old carbs from the 1960's and 70's. if there not leaking your probably out of fuel

You can buy a brand new float valve for about a fiver on ebay, might be a good investment.
