Get an MZB powerdynamo kit. They work really well and are dead easy to fit.

Points can also work good if properly tuned ;-)

You can nearly always bodge points to get you home, especially if you carry a few basic spares. You rarely get that luxury with electronic ignition. It's push it home and chuck it away....... :?

Hi all,
Well changed points & condenser, fitted a new carb and 2nd hand inlet manifold that was split - it will start but wont rev out, its like its on choke and the carb & manifold are trying to ice up. So I have been told to try Silkolene PRO FST as this should stop the icing effect. I have had a suggestion that the crank case oil seal might be perished with being stood a while - well its a 1989 with 1850 miles on the clock! Yes 1850 mls. So any suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated.
Cheers Jeff

Where did you get the carb from ?
There are reproductions on the market that are not woth a penny.
And maybe there is indees a problem with the choke.
Just pull the choke piston out and check if the rubber is still inside the piston.

and by the way
There is a conversion kit from powerdynamo which gives you electronic ignition including a new ignition coil for about 100 Euro.

And the electronics are not the same than 20 years ago.
Then I thought similar like the guy above, but today electronics are quite reliable and if you are not in the sahara desert when the unbelievable case happens that the electronic ignition fails
you have your mobile in your hand to call help.
My experience over the last 30 years of driving MZ is that they are reliable except the electrics.
When an MZ breaks down, then for 80 % because of electrical problems.
And changing one component of this electric means more reliability.
Remember: we are riding bikes that are minimum 25 years old, some quite more :-)
