Wiring on super 5 with electronic

Postby puckshole » Sun May 27, 2012 3:58 am

Trying to sort out the mess of the wiring on a Super 5 that has electronic ign fitted .
I have no wiring diagram & no spark at the plug . Im not sure if the wiring is correct on the coil , tried 3 coils so far .

Any idea what make of ign is fitted( see pics ) & any idea what wires go where inc the wires on the coils .
If poss does anyone have a diagram of the wiring which suits the electronic .

I know its a big ask but worth a try .
Many thanks .
Phil

Bugger, I had one of those on a Supa6 about 20 years ago. Could it be a newtronic? The black box is the "black box"that makes the electronic ignition work. The trigger on the dynamo is an opto-electronic unit. Mine got wiped out by the aluminium rotor and I went back to points. Have you carefully removed the wires from the black box and see whats written on it? Sorry I cant be any help

clean all the connections do not get any wires replaced in the wrong place

most of my electric problems over the last 10 years have been bad wires and connections.

Hi
Haven't posted for a while and have stalled in getting mt etz 250 running.
Looking at your photos I think I have the same system fitted. I to have no spark but electricity every where else.
Have you a remedy or are you replacing the unit.

Had a simular system on a 6v jawa twin once, used to run fine when the battery was fully charged, however with all the lights on, when you turned the indicators on the engine would cut, only to fire up again as the light extinguished. This led to some interesting manouvers around traffic islands, as the power cut in and out. I would therefore suggest you fit a fully charged battery and try again, as these systems seem to need a lot of power to run. The other alternative would be to either fit the excellent power dynamo alternator/ electronic ignition, or revert back to points, which ever suits your wallet better!

many thanks for all the advice so far , still no sparks . Im using a brand new battery with plenty of power & using a trickle 6 volt charger on it all the time the ignition is on .

Still never mind , life with old Mzs is never easy

try just running the coil and points part of the system from a good battery...

something in other areas of the system may be dragging the voltage down

had a harley hummer in the late 1950's ran the thing from a 6 volt car battery.
and charged it at night

the hummer was a very bad copy of a DKW rt125 and i mean a real bad copy

Dear All,

I have been revisiting my previous posts.

I still have problems with the ETZ 250. To be precise no spark.

I was tinkering again yesterday and wondered whether it might be the carbon brushes which were at fault, they appear quite worn and probably require replacing.

Also while looking at the pictures posted below, which is the same system as mine, what does the black box do and what would one replace it with if I returned to a point or a new electronic system?

Better still somebody make me a sensible offer so I can end the frustration!!!!
