10,000km service on '98 Skorpion

Postby Ratbag » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:54 pm

yup it's time for the 10,000kms service next week. new oil, plugs, filters, brake and clutch fluids, chain and sprockets, coolant. Is there anything else that should be done?

carb and gas tank clean out a good idea any time you have a chance....
beats having some one come get you when your stranded from crud in the tank and float bowl ..
my rt125 is fair to easy to do the traveller and saxon tour are a pain
and best done just out side in the drive way...

GOOD TIME to replace the fuel shutoff o-ring where it seals to the tank with a good one made with Viton
fuel running down your pants leg on the road is no fun

I'll sort that out then as soon as possible. Ive just replaced the fuel tap on my Sherco trials bike, the tap looks very close to the MZ!

Acerbis makes a universal fuel petcock that fits well ..reserve is a bit low on capacity though..

got some mz parts a few months back..

in looking at things the gas tank cap rubber seals i ordered
HAVE CHANGED
they have a turned down lip edge
the ones i ordered were for rt125
and fit my rt125 the saxon tour and the traveller
hope it keeps the rain out

also looking at the local parts place and stabil has a type treatment
for gasoline with ethanol in it may help with the water

Make sure you check the valve adjustment. I check mine at 9000mi. and the intakes had zero clearance.

Obsessive Skorpion servivce items

Postby jimc » Mon Aug 06, 2012 6:10 pm

My '96 Skorpoin Sport just got a major service, in addition to all the excellent suggestions above,
I serviced the rear mono shock pivots and front forks.
Front:
-fork oil change , you'd be amazed at the mud !
-steering head bearing re-grease
Rear:
-caught the spherical bearing at the bottom of the shock just in time , flush with solvent and re pack with Moly Disulpide
(CV JOINT) grease.
- re grease all needle roller bearings swing arm and shock pivot All should be possible without removing the seals, altho next time around I'll probably do those. The MZ assembly people are obviously very stingy with grease, hardly any in there.
There's a good article for this work:
http://www.totalaptitude.com/skorpion/Page%201.htm

I'd like to hear what antifreeze is OK on these bikes, I've been running ordinary Prestone, but I wonder about all the
concern over phosphates etc.(?)
