RT125 gear lever breakage
by djsbriscoe » Sat Feb 18, 2012 4:58 pm

My RT's gear lever broke last night on the way home. The metal bit inside the rubber broke off. As I wear heavy Altberg boots and occasionaly find myself stamping on the lever in frustration (when the change down misses a gear) this has obviously been too much for it.
Luckily I had a recovery option on my insurance and the AA had me home by 8pm (I left work at 5pm). Something to be aware of and I'd suggest an upgraded (i.e stronger) lever is fitted. I'll let you know what I end up using myself later in the week.

David.

P.S The shaft does NOT have a locating groove on it. A spare lever I have is expecting the groove so the bolt can not be inserted. I will have to buy a couple of OEM levers and then design something better myself, unless I can find something suitable.

Bought a new OEM lever. Breakage caused by corrosion creeping under chrome plating and into fractured steel bend where the rubber bung fits (the bit your foot moves when changing gear).
In short faulty manufacture.
