one thing i have found on old bikes
is some times fork neck bearings do not make a very good ground
hook a jumper from battery minus to the handle bars or a ground point in the headlamp
depending on the bike frame for earth ground is not good
a nice good number 12 stranded copper wire from all ground points to battery minus does wonders
for making things work better
