Turn signals doing hazard/4 way now

Postby chisleu » Mon Nov 14, 2011 5:55 pm

I had to replace my rear turn signals because I broke one but now all 4 flash at the same time (hazard lights / 4 way blinkers)

The indicator in the speedo doesn't flash. It used to always flash both, although the blinkers worked correctly.

I'm unsure what exactly I could have messed up unless I caused a short or something. I put the green wires to the wire with the stripe, although it shouldn't matter.

Maybe the bulb type is causing a problem (pulling too much juice or maybe too high resistance so it looks like a blown bulb?)

I'll switch it but I'm guessing that isn't the problem.

EDIT: I was WRONG! :) Thanks!

Now the turn signal indicators don't work at all. I think these lights are grounded through their base as well, which would explain why they 4 way'd. There is no ground on the base so I'm going to run a ground wire from the bracket to the exhaust hanger (where my tail light ground is) and see if the indicators work properly then.

Had a simular problem with a Suzuki, all 4 indicators came on, and the headlamp flashed! Turned out to be a bad earth.

NOTE
bad earth = bad ground
in some country's

Not sure what is going on with the indicator. They are flickery when they flash, and they still flash both sides together. The actual signals flash correctly so it's not a huge deal.

I'm betting I need to ground that bracket that the rear signals are mounted to.

when electric does weird things
bad ground is high on list of the usual suspects

or Heaven forbid a brand new defective part

Yep. Man I hope it gets too cold to ride this winter. I'm kinda hoping to strip the plastics and rewire the bike. There is a lot of hackery going on with the electrical system.

after working on bikes 55years i have see a lot of hacked up junk

and its getting worse.... :smt022

and the poor quality of copper wire is not helping things....

my rt125 got backed over in a parking space in mid September

and the lady hit it so hard she knocked the wires loose from the spades that hook
to relay 19 the spades were still on the relay the wires broke
good thing i still own a truck had to haul it home :smt022 non runner for 2 days
its running good but the weather is nasty here now about time to put them away for the season...
