Help how to remove front wheel from Simson s51 ?

Postby simsonite » Sun Jul 31, 2011 8:55 am

Hi ,

I'm new to this forum will introduce myself properly later, but really need some help.

Just picked up a s51 and had to remove front wheel to get in my van , this was impossible as the drum backing plate seemed seized to the spindle ? I was in a rush and had to drive 350 miles so had a go at levering it off - it broke !

So i've found someone breaking two of them they have already tried to remove 1 backing plate and the sames happened so whats the trick ( i havn't got a manaul) i assume theres a special way to do this or am I just being stupid :?:

Thanks,

Claire.

having never seen a s51 this is just a guess
metal of drum and axle have reacted over time
and have seized
will take a lot of penetrating oil
or heat
again this is a guess as have seen only 1 simson
fellow came to house
looking for info on where to get parts

Hi Dave ,

Thanks for reply I thought that at first but don't think its the case, i can move spindle up to a point then it gets stuck on the backing plate almost like there is a lip or something ?

When i get some time i will have another look , if any one else has any info plese get in touch :)
