Raptor Carbs on a 660 Skorp?

Postby Road Weazel » Thu Mar 18, 2010 3:25 pm

Has anyone used the dual 33mm CV carbs from a Raptor on their 660 MZ? I think I can find a set cheap and parts availability should be much easier as well (jet kits, twist-grip, cables, gaskets, etc...)
XTZ parts are hard to come by over here.
Thanx.

Yes it has been done with good results on a Mastiff..need to make a right side manifold from an old Raptor right side, redo throttle cable and choke.
but supposedly it does work.
let us know how you get on..

The carbs I have now are the stock Yamaha/MuZ set with individual filters (no airbox) and I'm sure they're not jetted correctly for this set-up. I have purchased a used set of Raptor 660 carbs with modified air-box and a K&N filter installed. I'm going to attempt to hang the whole assembly in the MuZ when I get time.
I've recently picked up another Harley-Davidson Sprint and it's taking my time at the moment. The vintage show and swap is this weekend and I need to get it presentable.
I'll keep everyone up to date on my progress with the carbs/air-box assembly.
Thanx.

Weaz,
Note the Raptor manifolds have a downward tilt to them as the Raptor engine is canted more forward than the Skorpion engine so the carbs will angle down
at the rear...
Let us know with pictures how it goes....
Thanks

OK, here's the report...
The carbs are a direct fit with the correct manifolds. There were no issues bolting the carbs on the head. The problem is that the throttle linkage on the carbs is exactly where the petcock is on the stock Skorpion tank.
I've been told that this worked on a Bagira (?) but without making serious modifications to the fuel tank I don't see how this could work on a Skorp.
It looks like I've got some parts to sell on ebay now...
All the best.

Bummer...
I once saw a gerrman site where they have successfully married the BST33's to the Skorp, but I dont know where it is now.
It was on this forum a couple years back.Moving the petcock would be a bugger I think...have to look, you could use a quick disconnect and eliminate the petcock.
Maybe Bill Jurgenson's idea of a Grizzly manifold and single TM40 Mikuni is a better idea,or the Bikeworx HSR42 single kit..
I think the Griz and TM40 is less expensive for sure.. ebay has a few of these manifolds and carbs...
Keep us informed..
Thanks

Weaze,
Was the placement of the petcock in the way from front to rear or laterally?
front to rear could be fixed with a spacer plate for the raptor..side to side ....screwed I'd think..
Did you ever start parting it out?

why not just disassemble the carb linkage and put it on the other side,
i did the same thing when i fitted different carbs to my xr,
took about 10 mins
