I assume that you mean the brake light doesn't work when you press the back brake but it does with the front brake? The way it's worded is slightly confusing but if that is the case then go with Nils' advice.
If your problem is as I originally read it, i.e. The front side/headlight coming on when you brake, then the problem is usually a failed twin filament rear bulb shorting out & causing the current meant for the brake light to flow through the sidelight circuit instead. The other possibility for this problem is a short in the rear bulbholder/wiring causing the same symptom but far less likely.
